My Story

Until today there is a good chance you have never heard of Recreation Therapy (RT). Usually the first time anyone meets a Recreation Therapist is when they need retirement/long term care or rehabilitation services. I discovered RT when my grandmother, who had Alzheimer's disease, was placed into a long term care facility. After talking to Recreation Therapists and researching what RT is, I knew it was the rewarding field I was looking for.  I have passion for helping people and empowering others to live their best life despite any barriers or obstacles. This led to my enrollment in Human Services specializing in Therapeutic Recreation.

I’ve worked in hospital and retirement settings, but spent most of my time in long term care. I loved Recreation Therapy but throughout my career in long term care, instead of being able to use my professional skills, I found that I was being directed to lead diversional activities to large groups.  This made me realize that an individualized support plan, one-on-one therapy and smaller group settings has a more lasting and profound effect. I do know that many residents enjoyed the activities, but I was no longer making the impact I strived to make, since I know how beneficial Recreation Therapy can be.

After 10 years of working as a Recreational Therapist, I placed my career on hold to raise two beautiful children who are now 3 and 5.

The time away from the field gave me the opportunity to begin developing my own business providing one-on-one

in-home Recreation Therapy services - Leisure for Health. A way I can make the most impact on individuals using my professional skills.

Leisure for Health provides services to individuals of all ages and health barriers. I currently serve the community of Etobicoke and surrounding areas. I meet my clients in the community, their homes, and in various living facilities.

My goal as a recreation therapist is to be an advocate for the profession while bringing a comprehensive and strengths-based approach to create meaningful goals for each client.
